Leading the CRM department at ANT-Informatik: building large-scale solutions for global NGOs and organisations operating worldwide, the years behind What NGOs Taught Me About Software. It was also my first architecture role, co-responsible for architecting a new software tool from the ground up.
Then a deliberate switch. After years of serving as an external, with many projects delivered and many rollouts survived, I wanted the inside view: not just launching a product and moving on, but carrying it forward. I took on a responsible role for global systems at a Swiss industrial group, harmonising the business processes of six subsidiaries into one system. The lessons live in One System and The Inside View.
The corporate world taught me a great deal: big industry, Swiss precision, real scale. And it taught me its other truth too. You must function, you must deliver, and however much you give, in the end you are replaceable. That is not bitterness; it is how large organisations think. Understanding it changed what I wanted next, and it became its own essay: Replaceable.
